Iris Agrafiotis
Architecture, University of California Berkeley

Iris is attending the University of California Berkeley where she is studying Architecture. She graduated high school with high honors and maintained a GPA above 4.0. Throughout high school she was involved in Competitive Gymnastics and participated in Track and Field. She was also a member of Student Council and National Honors Society. She recently participated in GOYA and danced with the Pan-Macedonian Association of Philadelphia Youth of “Megas Alexandros”.

Eve Marie Avdoulos
Anthropology, Art History, and Museum Studies, Michigan State University

Eve is a student at Michigan State University studying Anthropology, Art History, and Museum Studies. After completing her undergraduate studies, she plans on pursuing a doctoral degree in Classical Archaeology and aspires to pursue a career as a university professor. She has excavated at the Panhellenic sanctuary of Isthmia, is a member of Kyklos Hellenic Society, past vice president of MSU’s Modern Greek Club, and has received an AHEPA scholarship.

Courtney Estelle Basile
Architecture, Ball State University

Courtney is completing her undergraduate degree in Architecture at Ball State University. She will then pursue graduate school to become a registered architect. Courtney was chosen to spend a semester studying abroad in Lennox Head,
Australia, where she used her design knowledge for volunteer work within their community. She is a member of Environmental Green Builders, Orthodox Christian Fellowship, Crusaders for Christ, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society.

Joanna Christina Boardman
Economics and French, University of Alabama

Currently a junior at the University of Alabama, Christy is majoring in Economics and French with a minor in History. Her honors include Order of Omega Outstanding Freshman, Double Major with Distinction, Moral Forum Debate Champion, and the President’s List each semester. Christy is a member of the Leadership UA, and the University and International Honors Programs. She holds positions as Honors College Assembly Vice President and the SOURCE Director of Fiscal Affairs. Previously, she served as SGA Senator.

Asimina Angeliki Boutzoukas
International Affairs and Economics, Florida State University

Asimina attends Florida State University pursuing dual degrees in International Affairs and Economics with a Mathematics Minor. At FSU she is an Honors Student, a Service Scholar, and a recent recipient of the Profile of Service Award. She has maintained either Dean’s List or President’s List every semester of her undergraduate career. After receiving her undergraduate, Asimina plans to pursue graduate studies and a career in Development Economics or the Foreign Service.

Andrea Gaspar
History, University of Texas at Austin

Andrea is studying at the University of Texas in Austin, and will be graduating in May with a degree in History and Plan II, which is an interdisciplinary liberal arts degree, along with a concentration in medicine. She has been recognized as a University Honors Distinguished Scholar for the past six semesters, and she is the president of the UT Orthodox Christian Fellowship. Her plan is to practice either family medicine or internal medicine, using her medical skills in Orthodox mission work abroad.

Nicole Ginarte-Papaslis
English, University of Massachusetts Boston

Nicole is a junior at the University of Massachusetts in Boston as an English major with the goal of attending Law school. She was president of the Boston GOYA where she helped organize countless activities that reached out to those in need in the community. In addition, she has participated in a mission’s trip to Mexico building houses for homeless families.

Katerina Glyptis
Economics/Government, Harvard University

Katerina attends Harvard University and is considering majoring in Economics or Government before law school. She is a 2010 Coca-Cola Scholar, Plain Dealer Senior Standout, and was named a Most Valuable Student by the Ohio Elks Association. She served as President of the National Honor Society and Editor-inChief of the Newspaper at Normandy High School. Katerina’s passion has been campaigning for her school district’s levy in recent elections to gain the funds necessary for students to have a strong education.

Katerina Eleni Kafkas
Nursing, University of Massachusetts Lowell

Katerina is a nursing major at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She is actively involved in the Student Nursing Association and Nursing Students Without Borders. She plans to go to Africa next winter to provide medical assistance at an orphanage in Ghana. She enjoys playing club soccer and runs in her free time. She wishes to later pursue her career in nursing at a hospital in Boston.

Andreas Gus Kalantzis
Biology and Spanish, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Andreas is freshman at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Biology with a double major in Spanish, and will complete the Pre-Medicine course. He graduated from Palatine High School in the top ten percentile, was on the High Honor Roll all four years, and received the Pirate Pride Award (Pride in Developing Excellence), as well as receiving Palatine High School Academic Honors at the end of senior year.

Nickolaos Zackary Kallis
Biochemistry, University of Florida

Nickolaos is studying at the University of Florida with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Greek Studies. Upon completion of his Bachelor’s degree, Nickolaos hopes to pursue a career in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. He has been a volunteer
in a microbial genetics research lab and is a member of multiple honor societies. He has been recognized on the President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List every semester. He devotes his free time to studying and learning the Cretan lyra and laouto.

Dean S. Karahalios
Biology and Spanish, Loyola University Chicago

Dean is a freshman at Loyola University Chicago’s Interdisciplinary Honors Program studying both Biology and Spanish. At Glenbrook North High School, he founded the Hellenic Club, served multiple honor societies, and swam on the varsity swim team. He remained an active member of his church, participated in the dance troupe and music ensemble of the Orpheus Hellenic Folklore Society, and studied at the Hellenic American Academy, from whose Lyceum he graduated in June.

George Stephen Karas
Biology and Economics, Harvard University

George Karas is a student at Harvard University studying Biology and Economics. He is a graduate of Seton Hall Preparatory High School in New Jersey and was valedictorian of the class of 2009. George was named an AP Scholar with Honors, an Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar, and a recipient of a National Merit Commendation, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society. George has volunteered for over 250 hours at St. Barnabas Hospital where he helped patients with disabilities.

Alexis Maria Keramaris
Printmaking, School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Alexis is a sophomore at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Growing up, she was very involved within her local parish and was a member of Saint Barbara’s Greek Orthodox dance group, Thavma. In High School she was involved in the Visual Arts and Design Academy and graduated with the community service award of over 120 hours of community service. She is working on a concentration in printmaking and hopes to one day teach at the collegiate level.

Athanasios G. Kondilis
Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Athanasios is a freshman at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, pursuing a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology and is currently in the pre-med track studying to get into medical school. In high school, he was an Illinois State Scholar, A-honor for all four years, and received the senior medallion for excellence in Biology.

Marie Alexandra Latsa
Pharmacy, The Ohio State University

Marie is a freshman at Ohio State University with a goal of receiving her doctorate in Pharmacy. Graduating as Valedictorian, Marie was also the President of National Honor Society, Homecoming Queen, and received the Army Reserve’s Scholar Athlete Award. She has gone on a mission trip through YOCAMA, been a Hellenic dancer for thirteen years, and was a member of her GOYA basketball team.

Eleftheria Lekkas
Religious Studies and Psychology, Rutgers University

Eleftheria is a Religious Studies and Psychology major at Rutgers University. Her goal is to become a religious psychologist, to help those who are in need of a mind and spiritual healing. She was President of the Music Honor Society, Field Captain of the Marching Band, and was a student Sunday School teacher at St. Anastasios Church. She remained on the Honor Roll and Principal’s List throughout high school, received the President’s Award, and was a member in both the National Honor Society and Music Honor Society.

Nickolas Loukedes
Cemistry, Saint Anselm College

Nickolas is Chemistry major at Saint Anselm College and a member of the Honors Program in the pursuit of a career in Healthcare as a Pharmacist. Besides chemistry, his favorite classes include calculus, biology and psychology. Outside the classroom, he is involved in Saint Anselm’s school newspaper, The Crier.

Aikaterini Makridakis
Computer Science and Operations Management & Information Systems, Northern Illinois University

Aikaterini attends Northern Illinois University as a double major in Computer Science and Operations Management and Information Systems. She dances in the Cretan Dance Group of Chicago and takes part in the Orthodox Christian Fellowship at her university. Achieving admittance into the university Honors Program, Aikaterini has made Dean’s list every semester thus far. She plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Information Systems Management after her undergraduate studies at NIU.

Sotirios Alexandros Malamis
Chemical Engineering, University of Michigan

Sotirios is attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with an intended course study involving majors in Chemical Engineering (concentration in the environment) and Spanish, along with an International Minor for Business. Sotirios also received honors for Illinois State Scholar, Advanced Placement Testing Scholar, National Honors Society, and Mu Alpha Theta Honors Society.

Jessica Ann Metzger
Economics, Washington University in St. Louis

Jessica graduated Magna Cum Laude from Zionsville Community High School and is a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis studying the social sciences, majoring in Economics with a French minor. Her high school achievements include National Merit Scholar, National Honor Society, as well as leadership positions in a number of academic and community service groups, notably an environmental club that she co-founded.

Vasiliki Mitrakos
Political Science and Legal Studies, Northwestern University

Vasiliki is a sophomore at Northwestern University pursuing a double major in Political Science and Legal Studies with a minor in International Studies. She is a member of Phi Alpha Delta fraternity and the Hellenic-American Student Union. She has interned for The Mash newspaper, a Chicago Tribune Co. publication and writes for The Daily Northwestern. She placed first in the National Illinois Woman’s Press Association graphic category. Additionally, she received the Greek Youth Parliament Program award and National AP Scholar.

Dimitra Mouzakis
Music Business Management, Columbia College Chicago

Dimitra is a sophomore at Columbia College in Chicago, with a major in Music Business Management. In high school, she made it to the regionals as a finalist in the Chicago History Fair, where she received an honorable mention on behalf of her project, which she presented as a performance incorporating song, dance, and narrative speaking concerning women’s rights in Chicago. Dimitra has directed, organized, and performed in numerous concerts at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and was also an active member of the Greek Club for two years.

Anastasia Nitis
History and Mathematics, Iona College

Anastasia is a freshman at Iona College in the Honors Program as a Dean’s Scholar, studying History and Mathematics with the goal of becoming a professor. She graduated from high school Summa Cum Laude as an AP Scholar with Honor and a member of the National Honors Society. She was president of her GOYA and has done community service at nursing homes and the Ronald McDonald House throughout her high school career.

Chemical Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Theodore is a freshman at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Chemical Engineering. He has received the President’s Award for Academic Excellence, Illinois State Scholar, highest honors, Prairie State Achievement Award, All-Academic Athlete, a seven semester honor roll status, and was strongly involved in the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, and Track and Field.

Constantine Demetrios Pappas
Vocal Performance/Opera, California State University Fresco

Constantine is a freshman at California State University Fresno majoring in Vocal Performance/Opera and has performed for several years with the California Opera Association. A Boys’ State Delegate and a coach for his high school forensics and debate team, he was part of an international policy team that was ranked among the top 32 teams world wide by Bickel & Brewer. He has entertained at local hospice, convalescent, and hospital facilities and has served as assistant director of the junior choir of his home parish.

Alexandra Marie Plattos
Vocal Performance, University of Illinois at Chicago

Alexandra Plattos is a senior studying vocal performance at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is involved with the UIC Chamber Choir, the DePaul Community Choir, and she directs her own a cappella choir, Downtown Voices. Alexandra has been a recipient of the Harnack Music Award, the UIC Honors College Tuition Award and the UIC College of Architecture and the Arts Tuition Award.

Michelle Susan Prew
Biology, Boston College

Michelle is a freshman at Boston College as Biology major and graduated first in her class from Lynnfield High School, was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Superintendent’s Excellence Award, National Merit Scholarship Commendation, Harvard Prize Book Award, Rensselaer Medalist Scholarship, and Academic Excellence Awards in AP Biology, AP U.S. History, and AP Calculus.

John Tucker Sigalos
Neuroscience, Vanderbilt University

John is a freshman at Vanderbilt University with a major in Neuroscience. Graduating Summa Cum Laude, John served on the Honor Council/Disciplinary Committee, was secretary of the National Honor Society, won the Yale Book Award, received the Georgia Certificate of Merit, and was co-president of Habitat for Humanity. An active member of the Annunciation Cathedral-Atlanta, John serves as an Altar Boy Junior Advisor and has earned recognition at Oratorical Festivals.

Louis Andreou Spanias
Environmental and Biological Sciences, University of California Berkeley

Louis is a freshman at U.C. Berkeley and is majoring in Environmental and Biological Sciences with the hopes to attend law school. He has received the National Merit Commendation for his performance on the PSAT exam. Louis was Secretary of his National Honor Society, an AP Scholar and was also a member of the “We the People Team” representing the state of Arizona in Washington D.C. in 2010. Louis speaks fluent English, Spanish, Greek and the Cypriot dialect.

Biology, New York University

Amalia is a sophomore at the College of Arts and Science at New York University. She is a Biology major on a pre-med track and is considering a minor in Philosophy. Amalia aspires to attend Medical School in the future in order to pursue a specialty in Oncology. During her spare time, Amalia works as a private tutor and volunteers at her local hospital.

Nikitas J. Tampakis
Mathematics, Princeton University

Nikitas is a freshman at Princeton Univeristy working towards a degree in mathematics. He attended Tappan Zee High School where he graduated an AP scholar with distinction. Nikitas was a four year member of the high school chamber orchestra and was a member of the NYSSMA all-state orchestra in 2008 and 2009. Additionally, he ran varsity cross country and track, was president of the Science Olympiad club, and president of the Student Organization.

Sydney is a sophomore honors Biomedical Engineering student at University of Southern California with a minor in Theatre. With her pre-admittance to USC’s Keck School of Medicine and her love of language, Sydney hopes to become a physician and a member of Doctors Without Borders to continue her international medical involvement in various under-served areas.

Rebecca G. Theophanous
Neuroscience and Spanish, University of Pittsburgh

Rebecca is a dual degree student at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in Neuroscience and Spanish with minors in Music, Chemistry, and Portuguese with a goal to pursue a career in medicine. Rebecca was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She is an independent laboratory researcher under the department of Biological Sciences and volunteers at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. In addition, she has been playing the violin and piano for ten years and is currently in the University Symphony Orchestra.

Arthur Stephen Tingas
Commerce, University of Virginia

Arthur attends the University of Virginia working on his degree in Commerce. As an active member of Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Marietta, he has been a member of GOYA since the 6th grade and was voted its President in 2008. He served as captain of his High School Varsity Basketball team and was twice voted Best Team Player for his Varsity Baseball team. Arthur was awarded the 2009 Archangel Michael Award in the Metropolis of Atlanta.

Yolanda Maria Tselepidakis
Hospitality Management and Modern Greek, University of New Hampshire

Yolanda is a sophomore at the University of New Hampshire attending the Whittemore School of Business & Economics and pursuing a double major in Hospitality Management and Modern Greek. Yolanda has made the Dean’s List in all semesters with high honors and she is fluent in Greek and Spanish. She is an active parishioner and volunteers at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Newport, NH.

Leonidas George Vasilakos
Biology, Boston College

Leonidas is a freshman at Boston College majoring in Biology as a Pre-Med student and is interested in studying abroad at global clinics and hospitals. He plays competitive volleyball in college and has received the Saint Bonaventure Award, the Three Hierarchs Award of Excellence, as well as other academic achievements and athletic milestones throughout his high school years.

Christina Verdos-Petrou
Spanish, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Christina attends the University of Illinois as a Spanish Major with plans to earn a PhD, and has maintained Dean’s list status every semester. Fluent also in American Sign Language, she is an active advocate for the Deaf community. Throughout high school and college she has been involved in the Sign Language and Hellenic clubs at her school. Her goal is to learn Spanish Sign Language during her next year while studying in Madrid, with further plans of learning Greek Sign Language.

James Peter Xamplas
Chemical Engineering, Northwestern University

James is a freshman at Northwestern University and is majoring in Chemical Engineering. In high school he was an Illinois State Scholar, National Merit Commended student, National Honor Society member, All Conference Academic, and All State Academic student. James was Valedictorian at Niles West High School and played tenor saxophone for the Niles West Symphonic Wind Ensemble in addition to playing football and baseball at Niles West High School for all four years.

Mina Zissopoulos
Biology, New York University

Mina is attending the undergraduate pre-med track at New York University and majoring in Biology, in the pursuit of her dream to become a physician, In high school, she was the Valedictorian of her senior class, and was part of multiple honors societies including the National Honor Society, the Math Honor Society, and the English Honor Society. So far, she has completed over 500 hours of community service after volunteering at a library and hospital.
