Introducing our 2018 Gala Emcees: Trish Christakes & Pete Zervakis
Chicago, IL – The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce that our 2018 Awards Ceremony and Gala will be co-hosted by not just one, but two previous PanHellenic Alumni—Trish Christakes and Pete Zervakis. “Having two PanHellenic Scholarship Recipients come back in their professional capacity as ABC and NBC network reporters to emcee our 2018 Gala helps fulfill part of our dream—building a proactive Alumni group. We will talk more about this progress at our Gala. For now, however, we are excited to profile two wonderful young Alumni Emcees,” said Chairman of the Foundation, Robert A. Buhler.
Trish Christakes is the first female Sports Anchor and Director at the ABC affiliate in Peoria, Illinois. Trish was an inaugural recipient of a Hellenic Birthright grant in 2012, a prior program of the Foundation that made it possible for her to visit Greece for the very first time. She graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2015 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and English. During her time at Urbana-Champaign she worked with ESPNU, Fox Sports and Big Ten Network.
Trish on receiving a scholarship: “I’m forever grateful to Mr. Tomaras and the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation for allowing me the opportunity to visit Greece and be involved in a loving and supportive community.”
Trish on co-hosting the upcoming Gala: “This Gala is something I look forward to every year. I’ve met some of the most important people in my life through this Foundation and because of Mr. Tomaras. I feel beyond blessed and humbled to help Emcee and be a part of this special night.”
Pete Zervakis is a 2008 PanHellenic Scholarship Alumni, who now works as a news reporter at WTMJ-TV, the NBC affiliate television station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating with highest, Bronze Tablet honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011, Pete spent time reporting and anchoring at TV stations in La Crosse, Wisconsin and Madison, Wisconsin before making the move to the state’s “Brew City” in January, 2016. Since beginning his career in news, Pete has been recognized by the Wisconsin State Bar Association, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, and the Milwaukee Press Club for his work. Pete is an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Milwaukee, where he serves on the parish council.
Pete on receiving a scholarship: “The Greek American community has a strong sense of pride and camaraderie. We look out for our fellow Hellenes. Receiving a scholarship was an example of that, and watching accomplished members of the Greek American community put their faith in me and my fellow recipients was humbling. Attending the gala that year also led to the connection that helped me obtain my first internship in television news.”
Pete on co-hosting the upcoming Gala: “I believe in the Foundation’s mission. I think it’s important for the Greek American community to support our youth. Being able to assist with that, as a co-host, is an honor. I’m excited to re-connect with all the people who help carry out the PanHellenic Scholarships Foundation’s wonderful work.”
The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation’s Awards Ceremony and Gala will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Hilton Chicago.
